Here's a bit of slightly-relevant news that I don't think has been brought up yet: As of this June, Shout! Factory is switching its distribution of non-music-related DVDs from Sony BMG to Vivendi Visual Entertainment.

The move doesn't affect CDs (although it does effect some other things I've bought such as the Electric Company DVDs), but it would have been ironic if it did: The Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass catalog would be distributed by the same hands as the rest of A&M Records' output once again.

Probably they just got a better deal on distribution, is all. This happens from time to time. A&M itself was distributed by RCA for awhile back when the company was still independent...it was cheaper for them to farm-out their distribution rather than handle it in-house.
