I donā€™t remember seeing or reading this article, pretty cool about the making of Merry Christmas Darling. Richardā€™s direct words here.
Iā€™m curious about this rough mix Karen and Richard played to Frank Pooler on a 16 track tape machine.

@Chris May, What does Richard mean by rough mix? How would this mix have sounded any different than the final completed mix we know of today?

What heā€™s saying here is, because they (likely) hadnā€™t officially mixed the recording yet, they set up the faders on the console in more of a general fashion so that Frank could hear the playback straight off of the master tape. It would have been a rough mix vs. the eventual final mix.

So would Richard and Karenā€™s vocals on the rough mix be the exact same as the final mix? Or would they have been 2 different vocals?

The vocals that Frank heard that night at A&M studios, they were rough vocal takes or the final version vocals?

According to the article, he heard the master (final) lead vocal take.
