I happened to listen to "Superstar" sung by Bette Midller on The Frog And
Nightgown, NC(February 1972) last month. Barry Manilow played the piano.

When Richard talked about the arrangement on BBC2, Barry talked about Bette.
And I heard Barry talked about Bette on The Robert W. Morgan Special of the
Week.

Richard wrote 'late evenig during the period in which we were recording our
third album, I happened to tune in the "Tonight Show". Bette Midler, who was
the relatively unknown, was guesting and on this particular show, sang
"Superstar"' in From The Top.

Did Barry Manilow arrange "Superstar" which Bette sang at "Tonight Show"?

Yes, Barry Manilow was Bette Midler's arranger for several years, before he became a star himself.

Thanks Bruno.

I heard "Mandy" on the day that "Please Mr. Postman" ranked #1.
M was #1 the last week.

I read that Barry Manilow had been selected to receive the 12th Annual ELLA Award.
They say that the ELLA Award is named after its first recipient Ella Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Emeritus Ginny Mancini, Chairman, is Mrs. Henry Mancini. Mr. Henry Mancini
wrote "Sometimes" with his daughter.

I think Karen Carpenter should recieve the ELLA award, since Karen is often compared to Ella Fitzgerald.(They both have definitive versions of "Ordinary Fool","Little Girl Blue" and "From This Moment On".Karen and Ella blended beautifully on the "Karen/Ella" medley-I think they should have done a duet album together.(sort of like"ELLA AND LOUIE").

Karen recorded her part previously and then Ella recorded her part when they sang "Karen/Ella Medley". So if Richard wants to make another song, Karen & Ella can sing together again(?)

I found "Leader Of The Pack", "Little Girl Blue" and "Da Do Ron Ron" at Bette's site, too. I have not heard Bette's LGB, is it the same song?
