I just received the July 2003 issue of Down Beat, and the Yellowjackets are the cover story. They talk about their new album as well as their problems with the major record labels. In fact, when the band released Mint Jam on their own, it marked the first time that they ever received any royalties from an album. With the major companies they would just be given the money to make an album and that was it. Some interesting reading.

There's also a couple of mentions about John Pisano. One is about his days with the Chico Hamilton Quintet, which did a soundtrack for the movie Sweet Smell Of Success, which starred Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis. The other mentionable item is when DB lists "66 Hot 6-Stringers", which looks at the guitarists making today's scene. They mention his work with Joe Pass, Sergio Mendes, Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee, but not one word about his days with the TJB. Guess they missed that one.
