Thanks so much, jassdre. My wife and I were brought together by a loving God late in life, neither of us had been married before. Perfect mirror image match. There will never be another one like my Barb. I doubt I will ever remarry. This has been the most difficult time of my entire life.

Again, my heartfelt thanks.

I understand exactly and my most sincere sympathy.

I feel exactly the same way about my wife and personal situation. We have been married for 38 years this September, and have been a couple for over 41 years.

And I agree...The Shadow of Your Smile has a sound that, to me, is definitive of the Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass sound of the 1960s. As I mentioned above, there is just something about that song (although there are other examples as well) that is unusual and definitive of this artist's contribution to the musical landscape of the sixties.

Lollipops and Roses has always knocked me out....and I used to put the needle back down on that track two or three times...but I don't know that I'd want to replay the whole LP.

Same goes for Flamingo.

But Sandbox....yeah, I'd let WARM track through again.

Thanks so much, Captaindave. I'm so happy for you and your wife. Me and Barb knew each other for 17 years, and would have had 14 years of marriage Jan. 20th. I haven't known a day free of tears since December 18th.

Here' my list.

"Casino Royale", and "Carmen" are a tie for #1.

"Flamingo", and "Lollipops and Roses" are a tie for #2

#3, "Zorba the Greek" Wonderful!

#4, "The Shadow Of Your Smile". I was 12 years old when this came out and I did not appreciate the song til' I was older. Like maybe...16.

A tie for my #5 is "A Quiet Tear", "Milord", and "Adios, Mi Corazon". I like them now, but as a kid they were to slow.

My #6 is " Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring".

My #7 is "This Guy's In Love With You". I knew it was a good song, but hey...I wanted to rock with da TJB. Not listen to love songs.

#8 is "Strike Up The Band". When I saw that Mr. A was doing this song I expected a lot more. It was a throw away. :freak:

My #9 are "Sandbox" and " Whistlestar". These could be my #8s and I like them but they are no "Carmen" or "Flamingo"

My #10s are "You Are My Life", "A Song For Herb", and "I Belong". They were downers.

I just thought that although this thread is about albums, anyone who had the opportunity to see the TJB in concert back in the sixties will remember that Zorba the Greek was the show closer.

Those three. It's really hard to pick just one of those because they are 3 of my favorite TJB songs of all time. Maybe "Sandbox" because it is so different and quirky.

How about making this into a poll so we can easily see the results?

Shouldn't "Summertime" be included in the poll? It seems to be the only album missing (unless "Bullish" should be included, also).

SOrry about those goofs -- I'm working here alone today and got interrupted about 20 times while putting that poll together. I'll add "Strike up the Band" right now. BULLISH is technically a solo album so it doesn't need to be included...I was hesitant to include the two "T.J.B." albums as well, but there they are! :)

Hey Honda,

You're welcome. I know how it feels to lose a loved one myself(my mother).Just know that there are people out there who have gone thru a major loss in their lives, and know what you are going thru. Also, going to the Good Lord in this time of sadness can be a tremendous comfort as well. Like I said before, your beloved is resting peacefully in His arms.

I know that this is for TJB album closers, but for solo Alpert closers,I'd pick "You Smile,The Song Begins",from the MAGIC MAN lp. The tune has a beautiful, uplifting sweetness that can only come from somebody who has been touched by the love and sweetness of another human being(in this case,Herb and Lani's love for one another),and they express this sentiment to the world. I guarantee that if you listen to this version of YSTSB,you will relive beautiful memories of that special someone who touched your life in only the most best of ways.

Again Honda,my prayers and sympathies to you and your family/loved ones.

Thanks so much for the poll :D Makes it easy to see the top preferences. I'm shocked that so many others like Sandbox as much as I do.

So sorry to learn of your loss of your precious mother, jazzdre. This happens to us all. If I didn't have the Lord, I couldn't make a day.

I do appreciate so much, your prayers and condolences, jazzdre. I just take it one day at a time.
