"American Masters"... What about 'Mr. A'?

I always enjoy Herb Alpert's appearances on television, including his brief comments about Sam Cooke for the "American Masters" documentary on PBS. Is anyone more qualified than Herb himself to be a subject of this series? An in-depth (two hour?) TV report on his life and career seems well-warranted at this point.

Maybe he was asked, maybe he declined. Maybe an American Master is supposed to be deceased before he qualifies for the position. And, fortunately our guy doesn't have that qualification yet.
