Status Quo
PILEDRIVER
A&M SP-4381
England's Status Quo is a band of many contradictions. They have been loved by fans throughout a career of almost 40 years while being vilified by critics for pretty much the same reason: 'knowing how to play only 3 chords,' an oversimplification even though they freely admit it.
In the U.S. they were a one-hit wonder, that being "Pictures of Match Stick Men" from 1968. Afterwards they abandoned light psychedelic rock in favor of a plodding boogie, which became their trademark but guaranteed no more hits in America.
Following their new style, and beginning with MA KELLY'S GREASY SPOON (1970) and DOG OF TWO HEAD (1971), they worked their way toward becoming England's 3rd best seller of albums, surpassed only by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
There have been numerous personnel changes, but the band continues touring and recording under the leadership of Founders Parfitt and Rossi.
PILEDRIVER (1972) began a long association with Vertigo Records and a 3-album U.S. distribution deal with A&M.
