You can hardly say that he died peacefully, given how he had lived his life.
Jones died early in the morning of April 26, 2013 of acute hypoxia, at the age of 81, according to family members. He had been hospitalized since April 18, 2013, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville with fever and irregular blood pressure.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any good stories on George's loss, that weren't loaded w/ quotes mainly by today's younger, contemporary country recording artists, so we're left w/ the following, courtesy of The Boot:
