Lost Horizon on dvd

Oh my, Scott. Yes, that was released as a made-on-demand DVD back in 2011. Initially, it was sent out with just a mono soundtrack, but was corrected to the full DD 5.1 audio track.

Most of us thought that was surely IT for this under-apprecuated film, but shortly thereafter, the Blu-ray edition was released. Gorgeously restored, even the old extended scenes, it's never looked or sounded better.

The Blu-ray even features Burt's score isolated.

Is the Blu-ray also an on-demand Blu Ray disc? For the DVD R version is it on 1 or 2 discs? I see that the DVD R version also has some trailers and Burt's piano demo's. I just wondered how they could fit all that on 1 DVD R without compromising the quality big time. I knew you would know all about this as I still have the VHS tape you made me from the Laser!

Thanks

Scott

No, the Blu-ray was a standard production release from Twilight Time, released in a limited-quantity-edition of 3000 units. It's still not sold out though as most don't know of this film's charms, or they've dismissed it as a turkey.

Yes, both the DVD-R and the Blu-ray include the audio of Burt's demo recordings. Both, it is believed, were derived from the same high-definition scan of a gorgeous print, with the Blu-ray of course looking ever-so-much sharper in detail.

Our good buddy Jeffrey Kauffman reviewed the Blu-ray version for Bluray.com:

One more question I see that on Amazon's site it has under Special features :None. Do you think they now are only making the on demand DVD-R with just he movie and not including all the extra's?

Thanks again for your help.

Scott

Can't answer that, but my suspicion is that the DVD-R and the Blu-ray both currently still have all of the extra stuff.

Harry

Never trust an Amazon listing. I know from (professional) experience. :)

I highly recommend the Blu-ray release--that Jeffrey Kauffman really knows what he's talking about.

I'll have to get the Blu-ray player. I don't have a blu-ray player right now so I was interestd in the DVD-R but after your comments I think I will hold off on that and just get the blu-ray.

Thanks
