I found this statement on Wikipedia regarding the relationship of Richard Carpenter & Petula Clark

Richard Carpenter publicly has credited Petula Clark with bringing him and his sister to Alpert's attention when they performed at a premiere party for her film Goodbye, Mr. Chips.

I've never heard that either. The story that's usually told is that it was Jack Daugherty who gave the demo tape to Herb Alpert.

Wikipedia is edited by the masses, and as such should be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks Harry. It sounds kind of like the Diana Ross/Jackson 5 story. Diana took all of the credit, when someone else actually introduced them to Gordy
