Dear Mendes fans,

There’s always an IVAN LINS song on the last 6 albums by Sergio Mendes,
except for the Brasil 86 album.

Sergio started to record songs by Ivan on his return to A&M records in 1983 with VOODOO, the first track on the ‘SERGIO MENDES’ album.

On CONFETTI (1984) he recorded two songs, THE SOUND OF ONE SONG (with the children choir) and KISSES,
his last collobaration with Dave Grusin as an orchestra arranger. KISSES, an nice song lovely sung by GRACINHA with English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergmann.

On ARARA (1989), he recorded SOME MORNING and LOVE ISLAND, (Comecar de Novo), the Brazilian hitversion of this song by the Brazilian Superstar and Songstress SIMONE was featured in an television soap
MALU in 1980 and started the career for SIMONE.

On BRASILEIRO (1992) Sergio recorded 3 IVAN LINS songs,
LUA SOBERANA, SAMBADOURO and KALIMBA.

On his latest album so far OCEANO (1996) he recorded ANJO DE MIN as a singer in duet with the above mentioned SIMONE. With wonderful keyboards performance and arrangement by the great ROBBIE BUCHANAN. Sergio didn’t play at all on this track.

Will there an new IVAN LINS song appear on the next SERGIO MENDES album?
Let’s wait and see.

Ivan Lins, the Brazilian Composer/Performer/Record company owner(Velas), Great Tunesmith, Master of Harmony and a Superstar in his own right in Brazil.
The story goes that Ivan just started his own record company for the sake of having the great Brazilian composer GUINCA recorded.
There are 2 GUINCA songs on BRASILEIRO and one on OCEANO (Rio de Janeiro.

Ivan Lins’ career outside Brazil is not as big as it should be in spite of the fact that QUINCY JONES (old A&M artist) did a lot for him as Music publisher owner (RHASIDA MUSIC).

Ivan recorded two US albums for Warner/Reprise.
VIVA IVAN !

All the best,
Aqua do Brasil

Ivan is not only a phenomenal composer (the most sophisticated use of altered V7 chords in popular music, IMHO) and arranger, he is also a completely down to earth and super-friendly guy. I highly recommend ALL of his CDs (most of which are available at Dusty). Awa Yio on Reprise is one of the most gorgeous sets I've heard in the last 20 years.
