Greetings on 01JAN08 --

A YouTuber named the goochman recently posted eight vintage flim clips. It's a nice treat for those of us who've rarely seen the old TjB "in action" -- and one clip of The Lonely Bull actually appears to be a live in-studio performance.

Featured Clips:

The Lonely Bull [two clips]
Whipped Cream
A Taste Of Honey
Tijuana Taxi
Spanish Flea
Wade in the Water
Slick

Slick is quite enjoyable -- particularly watching Bob take a dive into a swimming pool, and seeing Herb duck a line drive while the group is playing on a baseball diamond during a game. (!)

Also, note the Wade In The Water blooper where the performance shows a piano with several disposable beverage cups inside (oh, my! Theodore Steinway would throw a fit!); yet, following the song's conclusion, the cups are all gone...so is what appears to be sheet music and Lou's pack of smokes...I like how he takes a drag and blows just as the song begins... (Oh yes, the old days when everyone smoked -- it was was good for you back then! Tastes good like a cigarette should!).

Enjoy!

My favorite in that bunch is the one for "A Taste Of Honey" when they add the string section.

I hadn't seen most of the TjB clips in almost 40 years when they were first aired on TV. It shows that Mr. A already knew how to make "videos". Way before MTV was a gleam in anyone's eye. :blinkeye:

Oh yes, Harry, "A Taste of Honey" with strings is quite an ear-opener. Wonder where the master tape of the TV soundtrack is?

Don't know. Early on, I'd hoped that it might have been a bonus track on one of the Shout! releases but that hasn't happened.

It's a knockout arrangement - if only they'd have actually played it "in key!"

Two more clips recently added:

.America
.A 9-minute Hollywood Palace sequence composed of:
  • Mame
    A "hits medley"

Enjoy!

.Sunny video

Thanks for directing us to these, James. Some of us didn't know they were there so you've introduced these to us for the first time. Good stuff!

On the Cabaret clip, the band magically leaps from what looks to be Times Square to the corner of State and Lake in Chicago to Vegas, all in 2:38. That's a quickly passing parade.

Thanks, Ed -- Yeah, I'm new to the visual world of the TjB, so seeing these clips has been really both enjoyable and exciting. The Sunny "video" is my fave...totally blows be away! I really dig the "TV/Batman-reminiscent" animation [POW!!]...seriously, an artistic superimposition of the lyrics over Herb made for a fascinating video. It's very simple but conveys extremely powerful, visual images. Unlike a lot of '60s promo films, it doesn't seem retro...totally timeless to me ~

I don't know if it was the Tijuana Taxi listed or one I found, but this one at the Hollywood Palace, Herb talked and even let Bob and Tonni say a few words! I had never heard any of them talk, but Herb, through the years. It's amazing how you think you know someone's voice will sound just by their looks. I was fooled and enjoyed that clip.

Hey, thegoochman recently posted a few more...

  • Tangerine -- Dig the two-shot of Herb + Tonni; also note Pat on double bass

I'm Getting Sentimental Over You -- Some spiffy dance moves there...but I'd gladly trade it for seeing Bob during his solo.

Mame -- This one's kinda silly...(a song about "the south" sung on a Malibu beach -- a bit odd, eh?).

Also, check out the "A Banda on Tour Video" -- Bob's Sextet joke results in a priceless gaze from Herb [5:55]. (I like how they're dune buggying around wearing ties!)
Enjoy!

Five more -- all from the '68 and '69 TV specials.

The first two clips offer a "live" in-studio performance...so we finally get to hear Tonni!

.TjB Medley -- A treat to hear Casino Royale arranged for the TjB. Bittersweet Samba rocks! Dig Tonni's high Bb with the little "doit" embellishment above high C -- clearly he has power and range. Nick sure unleashes here.

.Show Ending -- Unique to hear This Guy sans the orchestra.

Overall, kinda doleful since the group would cease to exist at some point soon afterwards.

Also presented are:

.Ellis Island Clip
.Mardi Gras I and II

All three are presumably from the the '68 special.

Enjoy!

IIRC, this was state-of-the-art at the time, a rel groundbreaker that made some headlines...
