I'm wondering who the lead singer is on the single "It's A Good Thing"...Jackie DeShannon and Sharon Sheeley wrote it, and Herb produced it. It couldn't be Burl Ives, but whoever it is, it sounds a lot like his voice. Does anybody know?
"It's A Good Thing" showed up last year on a compilation album of Sharon Sheeley tunes that were recorded as demos, and this one is listed as Herb Alpert singing. There are times when it does indeed sound like Herb, and other times when it's got a Burl Ives quality to it. My ears tell me that this song was slowed down from its original speed, thus Herb's vocal sounds a little deeper and draggy, giving it a more 'Burl Ives' feel.
One of the composers of the Dore Alpert records (I forget which one) is listed as 'Shari Sheeley.'
I never thought of THAT possibility...maybe they did slow down the tape...I'll have to listen to it closely. I just figured that Herb only produced the record and didn't sing.
Dan, wishing that Herb would release DORE ALPERT'S GREATEST HITS someday...
