A while ago, Entertainment Weekly ran an article about the best "cover versions" of various songs. In the letters-to-the-editor section two weeks later, a writer mentioned "Fool on the Hill" by Sergio Mendes as his favorite version of that song.
There was a Sergio mention in the "You" supplement of The Mail on Sunday (major UK newspaper) though he was dismissed in a parenthesis. A weekly feature has some star pick their favourite photo. Last week it was Paul Anka who chose the photo of himself with Elvis (a photo featured in the booklet in the boxed set). SM was wedged in the middle...
That dismissive attitude toward Sergio is typical, but it does seem to be changing a bit, as one can see in the YouTube comments under the Sergio & B'66 vids - lotsa Lani love there!
I wish I had seen that issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. I would have added the B'66 cover version of "For What It's Worth".
