This is one Mangione album I really should'a bought and given myself a chance to listen to...

I'm sure Esther Satterfield sung "Chase The Clouds Away" on one of the two albums she made which I did buy, otherwise this is really my loss, 'cept for playing that track in a store...

This album is a real solid effort. Despite what some would think, this isn't a pop album at all. Awesome arrangements, hot solos, beautiful melodies. As usual, Mangione's quartet was tight as hell. Esther sings on Soft, by the way. No electronics, no overdubs. Just quartet and orchestra. One of the best groups Mangione ever had. This is definately worth checking out. I'm not sure if this is still available on cd.

Without a doubt, my favorite Mangione album! I also enjoy his other first few for A&M (Main Squeeze, Bellavia and the breakthrough Feels So Good), but this one hits all the marks in my jazz book...

This is one of my favorite Mangione recordings. He was still displaying some serious jazz chops on this album. I absolutely love "Song Of The New Moon", which I've always considered as one of Mangione's better compositions. "Echano" is another fave. On both of these songs not only does Mangione bust a gut, but also Gerry Niewood on soprano sax. The soprano/flugelhorn combination works well on this album. Also love Joe LaBarbera's drumming! "Can't We Do This All Night" is a funky piece, and "Chase The Clouds Away" is flat-out gorgeous. The only song that I don't care for is "Soft" - it just doesn't fit with this album. Definitely worth getting! 4 & 1/2 stars!

Guess we'll skip from 4517 to 4519 after next week since 4518 is up now.

Or, the Small Circle forum area can borrow it for a week...some of our regulars don't read the jazz area here.

What a co-inky-dink in our numbering!
