Carlos Lyra RIP

The Bossa Nova composer Carlos Lyra has died at age 90. The quality of his Bossa Nova compositions can only be compared to those of Tom Jobim. Here is a classic Bossa written by Lyra and sung by the Founding Father of Bossa Nova Joao Gilberto.

Lyra was also an accomplished singer and guitarist, and here he is singing a signature composition at Carnegie Hall in 1962.

Here is another Bossa Nova classic with the music written by Carlos Lyra, and a perfect vocal interpretation by Astrud Gilberto and marvelous lyrics by Norman Gimbel. As the saying goes--they just don't make music like this anymore.

How well i remember listening to this song from the fall of 1963 written by Carlos Lyra and sung by Eydie Gorme. The term "the late great " certainly applies to both musical artists.
