Last week I spent a bit of time with friends and Wrecking Crew members Hal Blaine and Joe Osborn, interviewing them for our weekly radio show here in Palm Springs (and podcast via iTunes). The segments will be available over the next 3-4 weeks, starting next Monday afternoon. Parts 1 and 2 are with Hal, and the third interview segment is with both Hal and Joe. A fourth segment interviewing Joe by himself will follow.
In the first two segments with Hal, we discuss his life - starting out as a child, developing an interest in music, his influences, and down thru the years with 'The Wrecking Crew'. We also talk in detail about some of his favorite artists, including close friend John Denver, outlining in detail some of his personal struggles with management, and in his own life, leading to his unfortunate and untimely passing.
In the third segment (Hal & Joe together), we dedicate a majority of the discussion to Carpenters, to include a lot of behind-the-scenes talk regarding the duo, both in and out of the studio. We'll talk about their personal views of Richard and Karen in terms of talent and contribution to Carpenters, as well as some of the family dynamics also documented elsewhere. We also discuss Richard Carpenter's whereabouts in terms of a new Christmas project, explaining the delay for those who have voiced frustration and concern. Each segment runs approximately 1/2-hour and is released every Monday. I'll post links to the interview segments here each week as they become available! Stay tuned...
