Have you ever heard of "Pagode de Viola"?

Hey guys! As everyone knows, Brazil is a country rich in culture and musical rhythms. One of the musical genres of Brazilian origin is "Sertanejo" or "Música Sertaneja". Discovered in 1929 by folklorist Cornelio Pires, the genre has adapted over the years, being influenced by Mexican, Paraguayan and African music. The most used instruments in this genre are the acoustic guitar and an instrument called "Viola Caipira" or "Viola Brasileira". The instrument that gave rise to Viola Caipira came from Portugal, and was later adapted by Brazilians. The Viola Caipira is made up of 10 strings, distributed in 5 dueted pairs. One of the artists who revolutionized the use of the Viola Caipira was the musician Tiao Carreiro. Tiao Carreiro created, in 1959, a rhythm called "Pagode de Viola", designed to be played on the Viola Caipira, accompanied by a rhythm guitar. In this video, recorded in 1980, Tiao Carreiro, together with Paraíso, his musical partner, perform a pout-pourri of Pagode de Viola arrangements. Hope you like it!

Arthur--thanks for posting this excellent musical performance. Brazil has so many wonderful musical genres, and Sertanejo is one of them. I also truly enjoy the music from the northeast of Brazil--the accordion driven Forro. How can you top Luiz Gonzaga's "Asa Branca"?

Really, "Asa Branca" is a classic from the Brazilian northeast! No other song can beat it.
