Apologies if this has been posted before, but the April 2007 issue of Smithsonian magazine has a one-column Q&A with Herb Alpert on page 45. The news peg is that Herb recently donated $300,000 to the Smithsonian Institution to support Jazz Appreciation Month each April through 2009. The interview touches some of the familiar subjects (the iconic "Whipped Cream" cover) and some interesting perspectives from Herb on the influences of jazz on his music. It concludes with his desert-island discs: "Something by Ravel, some Miles Davis."
