Hey Herb! Where's Alpert?

Don't know how many know about this song recorded by jazz great James Moody from his Don't Look Away Now! album from 1969, but it's a pretty neat song called "Hey Herb! Where's Alpert?"

Yes it's a great song, but my question is, why is this song about Herb putting away the trumpet, when it was recorded in February of 69.
