For the first time in a long time I have some great new Carpenters items. I have some great rare stuff.

Here is what I have:

* THE MONO MIXES ALL ON CD
However, it seems to leave out Superstar. Isn't there a mono mix for that one somewhere out there?

*Alternate Album Mix of Yesterday Once More (unreleased)
*Alternate Album Mix of Sing (unreleased)

*And When He Smiles (alternate live performance)
*Iced Tea (Battle of the Bands)
*The Girl From Impanema (Battle of the Bands)
*Strangers In The Night (RCA Sessions)
*Every Little Thing (RCA Sessions)
*All Of My Life (original demo, however, it has a Japanese guy talking)
*Nowhere Man (original demo with just Karen and piano)
*Crescent Noon (CSULB choir sessions, VERY different)
*And When I Die (corrected to original pitch and tone)
*Morton's Potato Chip Jingle #2 (I haven't heard this one)
*Dancing In The Street (Battle Of The Bands)
*Dancing In The Street # 2 (Battle Of The Bands Semi-Finals)
*One Love (Alternate Version)

Please don't ask me to give these to you. I'm not advertising, just telling you what I have if you want to discuss it.

Wow.... you have some great stuff! Wish I could find all of those on one CD! How do they sound? Especially interested in the RCA sessions...and alternate album mixes...you lucky guy....do tell us how they are!

I too have all of those recordings-- They are quite rare and a treat to listen to! Like I mentioned in an earlier post on the Carpenters "Favorite Intrumental" thread, my fave is "The Girl From Ipanema". I always liked it on "The Karen Carpenter Story" and when I had the chance to hear the full version, I was stoked! Congrats on your discovery, Andrew. -Chris

By the way, the "Dancing in The Street" recordings were the "YOUR ALL AMERICAN COLLEGE SHOW" versions, right? I just love hearing Rich do the Wurlitzer electric piano solos on both of those, hence his nickname "electric fingers". -Chris

First off, a bow to your resourcefulness in obtaining these rarities. I've been collecting this stuff for years and haven't run across any of these:

*Alternate Album Mix of Yesterday Once More (unreleased)
*Alternate Album Mix of Sing (unreleased)

*And When He Smiles (alternate live performance)
*Iced Tea (Battle of the Bands)
*The Girl From Impanema (Battle of the Bands)
*Strangers In The Night (RCA Sessions)
*Every Little Thing (RCA Sessions)
*All Of My Life (original demo, however, it has a Japanese guy talking)
*Nowhere Man (original demo with just Karen and piano)
*Crescent Noon (CSULB choir sessions, VERY different)
*And When I Die (corrected to original pitch and tone)
*Morton's Potato Chip Jingle #2 (I haven't heard this one)
*Dancing In The Street (Battle Of The Bands)
*Dancing In The Street # 2 (Battle Of The Bands Semi-Finals)
*One Love (Alternate Version)

As for these,

* THE MONO MIXES ALL ON CD

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's a copy of the disc I made and have since seen it bootlegged all over the world.

Hey Andrew; What a line up! Wishing
and Hoping and Praying. The only
rare recordings I have are Karens
unreleased solo tracks, which from
what I understand are in great shape compared with others I have
heard. These recordings were obtained from Napster back in its
legal day's.. When this CD was made
it also contained Can't Buy Me Love
and an opening from one of the TV
specials which begins. The Captin
and Tennile, Karen and Richard Carpenter and Benn Varene(sp) siging Silly Love Songs. The last
song on the disc is And When I Die.

I have also never heard of these & from the list they do indeed seem rare.

Regarding the mono's yes I have the Bless the Beasts/Superstar mono 45 which I believe we discussed here awhile back and is promo (mono both sides).

Nice find Andrew. :)

Andrew! I'm glad you like those recordings, too! :)

It's nice to have those songs in nicer form, since I can imagine the releases won't see the light of day in this lifetime!

Andrew,
I'll say it for everyone who is thinking it:
"I'm happily jealous for you!" :)

Chris, I'm not exactly sure. I copied the track listings as they were off the back covers of the CDs. You could easily be right.

By the way, the sound quality is relatively good. Some tracks are better than others, but no track is unbearable to listen to.

Nowhere Man is definately a treat to listen to. Karen's vocals aren't drowned in strings this time. It's nice to hear Karen and the piano-sounds great!

Crescent Noon is almost like a whole another song. The choir adds drama to it, and Karen's phrasing is completely different. I love how she emphasizes Crescent. Most fans wouldn't appreciate this song because her vocals weren't the best at this time.

I wonder if these got leaked by the same person that leaked the unreleased solo sessions. :D (I;m being funny)

One has to wonder though that if these type demos are available out there...then what could Richard possibly have in his vaults of demo tapes yet to be released. If they exist I'm sure he has them preserved, right?

Congratulations Andrew on your acquisition. Now to express what really fills my heart. Longing, covet and a giant dose of jealousy.

Oh well, some days are diamonds, some days are ...

May I suggest you begin a treasure chest with a big fat lock on it.

Pouting and drooling in child-like despair,

Jeff

I'm actually not interested in collecting the items being discussed here (I always figure that stuff got left on the cutting room floor for a reason) but I am curious.... how does one go about getting this material that clearly is not meant for public consumption? Do you just have to "know somebody" or be in the right place at the right time, or what?

There is an individual selling this collection on eBay. He actually has a chronological 5-CD package you can buy, OR each individual disc. The audio quality on these is fair to good, but nothing great in my opinion. -Chris
