I received quite a find today - a jazz DVD with Pete Jolly on it. It's from Japan and is called West Coast All Stars, and is in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound. This concert celebrated the 50th anniversary of the legendary Lighthouse All Stars. Aside from Pete on piano there is Conte Candoli (trumpet), Carl Fontana! (trombone), Teddy Edwards (tenor sax), Chuck Berghofer (bass) and Joe LaBarbera (drums). The actual concert was in 2001, but this DVD was released in 2003. The sound is incredible, as are the performances. For me, seeing Fontana is a special treat. The tunes played are:
Four
Bernie's Tune
Secret Passion
Diablo's Dance
Lover Man
One For Howard
If I Only Had A Brain
Old Folks
Oleo
Walkin'
I don't know how widely available this is (or has been), since I won it on eBay, but if you're a jazz fan this is definitely worth picking up! Even though it's Japanese, this DVD plays in this region. A pure delight!
