This is probably my favorite J.J. Johnson album of all time. JJ is in top form on the trombone, and these compositions are first rate. I think this is the first rendition of "In Walked Horace" that JJ did. This also features a very young Freddie Hubbard in one of his first recordings. He would eventually join Art Blakey's band after this - as would Cedar Walton. But you can tell already how great Hubbard was going to be. There's not a bad track on here at all. One of the more interesting tunes is "Aquarius", which almost comes off as a classical piece. if you've never heard JJ outside of his work with Kai Winding, then this is the album to get!
