Interesting that my copy, bought immediately after the album came out in 1978, doesn't have the sunset shot on the front cover, just a dark blue background with the album title lower and in a larger script, and the A&M logo centered on the bottom. The band logo is also stamped into the cardboard, or whatever--it's raised and can be felt. Not sure if that feature made it onto the sunset cover.

Not a very memorable record, alas.

I went to see them at the Sahara Tahoe about the time of this LP and was really.....really...underwhelmed.

The rest of the audience was having a good time, but I think that was probably substance-induced. The loudest "whooo"s came when the stage lighting changed colors.

As light as they were on record, they at least had the benefit of a producer and engineer. Playing live, just another bar band...and an unspeakably laid-back one at that.

"...but I think that was probably substance-induced."

Welcome to my world! Do you think everyone went for the music? It's called, having a good time! And, after the concert, if one got lucky with a chick... all the better!

Mike

Hey, my date and I had a great time...just thought the band was lightweight.

And, as I noted...even the substance-enhanced seemed more interested in red spotlights turning blue than the band's licks.

Their bio says Pablo Cruise was the first rock band to play a casino showroom and that they broke Elvis' attendance records at the Sahara Tahoe.

They've reunited and are playing Tahoe again...these days at Harrah's.

I always loved Pablo Cruise....especially their singles. "Don't Want to Live Without It" has awesome, shimmering harmonies. "Whatcha Gonna Do" was part of the summer soundtrack of 1977 (along with Karen's "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song"). The next summer, we had "Love Will Find A Way", which is still a big favorite of mine.
What a great time for music, and an even greater time for A&M!

Interesting indeed. As the AOTW Image archiver here, I did indeed discover there are two different front covers to this one. I will upload the "alternative" cover later today as we aim to include all versions of US sleeves* in our image archive.

* archiving all versions from all countries would be a daunting task at best. Since A&M is an American label and this is an American website (not to mention bandwidth and storage on our server is at a premium) we can only archive international sleeves of high profile artists or those of historical or artistic significance.

If you have Pablo Cruise "20th Century Masters: The Millilleum Collection", the song "I Go To Rio" has 20 more seconds than the original copy. By the way, this was Pablo Cruise's best album. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

Personally I thought Pablo Cruise jumped the shark after album #2 (LIFELINE), but I did really like the song "Don't Want To Live Without It" from this album. I felt they ditched most of the originality from the first couple of records and became just a standard pop band. Just my 2¢.

"Don't Want To Live Without It" is a "lesser" "Whatcha Gonna Do?" or "Love Will Find A Way"...

The group's best years were clearly behind them, even despite the attempt at the number of quality tunes going from a "couple" to to a "few"...

It took at this point the gigs at outdoor venues, rock festivals (or "4th of July Freedom Festivals"), arenas and even--yeah, CRUISES!--not to mention the casino circuit, to keep this group in the spotlight, which in retrospect, only the novel remake of Peter Allen's "I Go To Rio" can despite the "camp quality" can really retain any redeeming value until something more substantial like "Cool Kind'a Love", came along; the last hit from Reflector the group's final A&M LP...

Dave: Actually, Pablo Cruise had one more album called "Out Of Our Hands" on A&M in late 1983. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

I also heard of a disco style version of "Don't Want To Live Without It" which Pablo Cruise say "Don't Wanna", "Don't Wanna", "Don't Wanna" & so fourth. It is probably one of those 12" inch versions. Heard this back in late 1978. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

Well, I had a Forget Me (K)Nots '45' w/ both "Don't Want to Live Without It" & "Love Will Find a Way"...

(I remember hearing the endless, burning guitar solo for the 1st time at the end of "Don't Want To Live Without It", too; my first time ever hearing that song...)

And I had a Forget Me (K)Nots w/ "Whatch'a Gonna Do?" and 'A Place In The Sun", too...

My only Pablo Cruise product, besides the 8-Track of A Place In The Sun, years later...
