Mr. Herb Alpert, Ms. Lani Hall and their fabulous accompanying trio graced Washington DC' Blues Alley with their intimate performance tour last night and I just wanted to comment on how fabulous and memorable the show was.
Having "grown up" listening to both Mr. Alpert and the TJB and Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66, and to have had this opportunity to enjoy a live collaboration of the talented band; (which included the amazing Bill Cantos on piano); Mr. Alperts' incredible trumpet mastery along with his wife Lani's distinctive and brilliant vocals was a complete joy.
The selections and arrangements of the jazz compositions were familiar yet progressive and executed with both tremendous talent and energy. Their appreciation of the music and of each other transcended from the stage to the audience immediately, and the warm and intoxicating mood that evolved from each song was infectious.
I only hope they will agree to share their grace and talent with the public for years to come. Their performance last night was truly a gift they brought to this town and passionately and joyfully presented to us with, and from their hearts.
