The Payola$ are arguably one of A&M's more underrated acts of the '80s. They never had a Top 40 hit in the U.S., but it certainly wasn't for lack of catchy songs - they've got quite a few that will stick in your head for days on end, like "Eyes of a Stranger" or "Romance" or, from this particular album, "You're the Only Love." Their albums are particularly intriguing to go back and listen to these days given that Bob Rock went on to become a remarkably successful record producer in the '90s and beyond, for everyone from Metallica to Michael Buble (I wonder if David Foster had any idea when he was producing this album that one day he and Rock would one day both be working as producers on some of the same albums! ).
