S Club star recording lost Carpenter hits

Former S Club singer Jo O'Meara is to record lost songs written for Karen Carpenter.

Richard Carpenter, Karen's brother and singing partner in The Carpenters, approached Jo in the hope that she would agree to sing songs that he wrote for Karen before her death from anorexia in 1983.

"Richard has said that vocally I am the closest to Karen he has heard since her death," Jo told The Mirror. "He has asked me to record some of the songs he had written for her. Karen has always been my all-time favourite singer."

So this story has resurfaced, huh? I seem to recall a year or more ago when the Internet was all abuzz with stories of Richard producing an album for Jo O'Meara. The story came from the UK, too - a natural since S Club 7 was big there.

I'm not sure there's any substance in this. All Jo O Meara has done is profess a love for Karen's voice. The co-operation with Richard was meant to be for her first album as a solo artist and that album is already out. And there's no sign of Richard on it.
