I managed a couple of auction wins for some Herb/Tijuana Brass.
Does anybody know anything about these ?
1)A Portrait In Music(Promotional 2-CD set for Rondor Music)

2)Viva Mexico(Australian CD released thru Rainbow Music,a budget label)

btw,I know what the tracks are,but am interested in background info.

The "Portrait" compilation is one of my favorites. As I understand, there are only 1000 copies in circulation. It was made to promote the publishing wing of A&M, Rondor. Great selections- and the only place "Bo Bo" can be found on CD.

As a result of the Rondor compilation being put together to promote the "home grown" tracks, it is interesting to listen to. Since it wasn't really meant to be programmed for listening, its somewhat varied approach to track selection tends to make it a bit jarring at times, going from the TJB era to solo era and back again. The mastering of the 2-disc set leaves a little to be desired; some of the tracks tend to sound a bit muffled, but overall, it's a worthwhile set. It's particularly satisfying to see all of the Alpert album covers represented in the inner artwork.

As I understand, there are only 1000 copies in circulation.

Since first finding out about PORTRAIT, it seems like there's been at LEAST 1000 copies of it on eBay. (Not really, I'm exaggerating).

I've not seen nor heard the VIVA MEXICO compilation.
