Jazz albums to be reissued under Koch label

Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Music by Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Stan Getz and others will be reissued by Koch Records Nashville, which has acquired the Charlie Parker Records catalog.
"We are getting into this thing as quick as we can to assess everything we bought," Nick Hunter, general manager of Koch Records Nashville, said Wednesday. "We hope to remaster and release it by late spring, early summer."
Charlie Parker Records, named for the influential jazz saxophonist, operated from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s.
The catalog was owned by music producer Aubrey Mayhew. Terms of the deal, which includes music publishing company Charlie Parker Music, weren't disclosed.
Hunter said there are about 55 albums in the catalog and some unreleased material. The roster includes works by Cecil Payne, the Orioles, Miles Davis, Barney Kessel and Pete Jolly.
"Very little of this stuff has ever been out on CD before," Hunter said.

Some searching around reveals that evidently this news goes back as far as the first of the year,so it's possible some of this material may be out soon. There appears to have been only one album under Jolly's name(THE SENSATIONAL PJ GASSES EVERYBODY) but there is a Shelly Manne/Art Pepeer there that he could have been involved with(just guessing). Other notables(besides Parker),include Lester Young,Mundell Lowe,Red Norvo,Oscar Moore and Marty Paich. Another tidbit is that the guy who owned these masters also owns one of the largest collections of President John F. Kennedy memoriabilia, including the entire Dallas,Texas book depository where it was believed that Lee Harvey Oswald fired the rifle that killed the president in 1963. Mac

Well, Jolly's A&M-stuff is what we're hoping for... Speculation here, of course, is that it will be (hopefully) be part of a program by Shout! Factory or even Hip-O Select, if not by one specialist in a handful of A&M-reissues, Collectors Choice... But whoever does put ANY Jazz on CD, maybe giving its "Universal Recognition" a Second Wind, is really doing a Good Thing, no matter what!

I seriously doubt that Jolly's A&M sessions will be part of these reissues. His RCA recordings might get reissued, but the anal masters at Uni wouldn't make a profit from the A&M stuff, so it will probably rot in a vault somewhere.

As long as we’re on the subject of Pete Jolly, there is supposedly a new reissue of his Columbia album, “To Much Baby”. There is one for sale at GEMM that indicates it’s an import from Italy that was released last month. I also saw it on ebay the other day as a “buy now” item that is already gone. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

BTW: “To Much Baby” has a real groovy album cover, and an interesting track list.

1. I'm all smiles
2. One morning in May
3. If I ruled the world
4. Telephone song
5. Some time ago
6. Same ol' Huckleberry Finn
7. Do I hear a waltz?
8. I'm getting sentimental over you
9. Favela
10. On a wonderful day like today
