Few players have had such an impact in jazz in a very short time as Clifford Brown did. His trumpet prowess was nothing short of spectacular. This album is solid proof of his amazing talent, not only his horn playing but also his writing skills. Having Max Roach behind him doesn't hurt, either. :D This is an important album for any jazz fan. "Cherokee" usually gets the accolades, with Brownie just flying over the quick changes. But my favorite track is his original "Sandu", which has a relaxed groove going. "Swingin'" is another stunner that displays Brownie's effortless playing. It's little wonder that jazz trumpeters (Herb Alpert included) cite Clifford Brown as their favorite trumpet player.
