On the classical side, there are numerous great trumpeters: Bud Hurseth, Phil Smith, Wynton Marsalis, Vacchiano, Michael Sacks.

I am aghast as to why his name doesn't come up here at all, but Randy Sandke is a SPECTACULAR jazz trumpeter. Big , full , beautiful sound, tremendous range, limitless imagination, and that quality missing from a lot of current trumpet players -- taste. Check out "Cliffhanger" on the Nagel-Heyer label or any of the superb albums he did for Concord Jazz. A SUPERB player.
