The weather was beautiful today for an outdoor concert featuring '80s punk pioneer Joan Jett at Knoxville TN's World's Fair Park.

Jett followed local act Jagstar and preceded Lifehouse, which surprised me considering her status with my age group rather than younger music fans. Guess I'm not on the cutting edge anymore.

She was backed by a drummer, bassist and lead guitarist and played for a crowd of around 5,000. Tickets were free but were only available through U.S. Cellular's outlets. The event was heavily advertised as well.

The volume was subdued but the performance enthusiastic throughout the 15-song set, which included many crowd favorites:

Bad Reputation
Cherry Bomb
Light of Day
Do You Want to Touch Me?
Change the World

Androgynous
Five
We Are Not Afraid
Mary Tyler Moore Theme ("We're Gonna Make It")
Fetish

I Love Rock and Roll
Crimson and Clover -- Tommy James cover
I Hate Myself for Loving You
Real Wild One
Everyday People -- Sly & Family Stone cover

Ms. Jett looked great clad in leather and remains in great shape at age 46. Following her set she got in an SUV to leave but graciously stopped at the gate to sign albums and pose for photos with two fans including me and my friend Bruce. During her set Lifehouse held a fan reception, and we were able to meet the band then.
