We just finished glossing over Karen and Richard's WORST recordings in the "Drusilla Penny" post. Why don't we now talk about K&R's BEST recordings.Out of approximately 175 recordings(13 studio albums, plus Karen's solo album, the "As Time Goes By" Import, and exclusive tracks on "Essential Collection"),I offer the following 20 tracks as Karen and Richard's all-time best recordings.(in no particular order).

THIS MASQUERADE
ORDINARY FOOL
CRESCENT NOON
RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS
A SONG FOR YOU
I CAN DREAM CAN'T I
SOLITAIRE
AURORA/EVENTIDE
LITTLE ALTAR BOY
ONE MORE TIME
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEAR'S EVE
SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN
LITTLE GIRL BLUE
LOOK TO YOUR DREAMS
WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE
BABY IT'S YOU
SOMETIMES
KAREN/ELLA MEDLEY
DON'T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA
TOUCH ME WHEN WERE DANCING

To mr J.'s list, I would add the following:

NOW
SUPERSTAR
YOU'RE THE ONE
I NEED TO BE IN LOVE
TRYIN' TO GET THE FEELING
MAKE BELIEVE IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME (Solo Album)

As far as Richard's finest vocal performances, I would suggest:

I KEPT ON LOVING YOU
I'M STILL NOT OVER YOU
CALLING YOUR NAME AGAIN

Mr. J,
If I made my list, it would look almost exactly like yours!
I'd just swap "When I Fall in Love" for "Little Girl Blue",
and add "I Need to Be in Love" .

I just got done "bashing" four songs, so let me provide fair and balanced opinions here. Carpenter's ultimate best, in my opinion, are: "Strength of a Woman," "You're the One," "Where Do I Go From Here," "Goodbye to Love," "Crescent Noon," "A Song For You," "I Need to be In Love," "One More Time," and, my personal favorite "Kiss Me the Way You Did Last Night." The first eight need no explanation, but some of you, I am sure, must be cringing over "Kiss Me." But I think that song should have been the single off of Lovelines instead of "If I Had You." I honestly think it would have been a hit. Yes, really. Richard's production, Karen's singing, and the overall tone of that song is superb. Again, just my opinion. :)

A lot of people might disagree with me on this but I would say Two Lives. Karen's vocal performance on this song is excellent. Something about this song is just magical to me :!:

My other favorites:

Goodbye to Love
When I Fall in love
Now
Back in my Life Again
I Just Fall In love Again
Hurting Each Other

In MY opinion, these are the best :!:

Yeah, I agree with you, Geographer- "Kiss Me" IS a great song! I had forgotten about that. It would have made a great single. I find that I enjoy it even more than "Touch Me" even though they are similar.
