If this has not been brought up before than I have discovered something major

If you listen to the song I Need To Be In Love very closely that there are actually 2 remixes that are always labled the 1991 remix. That was confusing but if you listen to the song at approximately 2:54 you will hear a piano that is very strong on one mix but is not noticeable on the other. This seems to be the only difference.

The one with the piano appears

on the single and (album version )

In the liner notes on From The Top, It says that this was Remixed in 1990.

On the liner notes on Carpenters Perform Carpenter says that this was Remixed in 1991.

Perhaps this has been remixed & remixed.

...who believes that remixing doesn't always mean better, online...

Wow! You must listen to that song as much as I do.

Actually, I have noticed lots of differences in the same songs on different CDs. Can't think of which ones off hand, but I listen to the Carpenters sooooooo much that I have noticed a few.
