While "This Guy's..." undoubtedly the best seller and very melodic, I think by the time I go through my TJB collection (including Greatest, Four Sider, Definitive Hits, etc), I've heard it just a few too many times.
Unquestionably "The Bell That Couldn't Jingle" is my far and away favorite. I think maybe Herb's vocal stylings are well suited for novelty songs.
It's kind of like a performance of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's "Pollicle Dogs and Jellicle Cats" I recently heard on a CD box set. I couldn't wait to find out who the comic actor / singer was who gave such a natural rendering to the song. Turned out it was ALW himself on vocals and piano. I don't think his exuberant joy would have carried so well on "Memory" or "Phantom of the Opera."
