"Yesterday Once More" mix question

There's been a bit of a debate over at the Steve Hoffman Forum regarding which mix of "Yesterday Once More" appeared on the various issue of SINGLES 1969-1973.

I maintain that on both versions that I have, "YOM" appears as the original single mix. The two I own are the ancient '80s-issued CD and the newer Remastered Classics CD. Both to me sound just like the vinyl and the 45 promo single I have.

Do any of you guys and gals out there have an issue of SINGLES 1969-1973 that has the 1985 remix on it? Several posters there swear that they have the 1985 remix on their copy of SINGLES 1969-1973. In two cases, they have the Canadian issue. Can anyone with a Canadian issue confirm that?

Also, a few are looking at obtaining the current Japanese version of SINGLES 1969-1973. Does anyone have THAT one? Which version of "YOM" is there?

Thanks for your help.

Harry

Yes, the Canadian release of "SINGLES, '69-'73" has only one remix on it, that being "YESTERDAY ONCE MORE". I also own the Remastered Classics version which has the original 45. -Chris

I also can confirm that the Canadian version has the 1985 remix of Yesterday Once More. Also, I have heard a US version of the CD that also had the 1985 remix on it.

Thanks guys - that was exactly what I was looking for.

Anyone have a Japanese release?

Harry

I too have the Canadian release and it does have the 85 remix on it.

These seem to be on Ebay quite regurlarly and pretty cheap for new sealed copies.

I'm not sure but I know that one release(can't remember which country it was) actually says on the back insert that Richard remastered the CD in 1991. My guess then is that at that time the US release was updated with the newly remastered version at that point. I like you Harry have the ancient first US issue( made in Japan). It's interesting that Richard was only use one remix for the Canadian issue and leave the rest of the CD intact.

I remember a few years back when I was updating my collection, I looked EVERYWHERE for a CD copy of “SINGLES ’69-‘73”. I finally found the Canadian release in some mom and pop shop and I was so upset when I played it and found that remix on there, given the fact that the whole purpose for buying it in the first place was to obtain the original mixes (as well as the instrumental segues).

I was pretty stoked when I came across the Remastered Classics version, which had the entire 1/4" master in it’s entirety! -Chris

I poked around a bit on eBay and saw all of the sealed listings for this disc. Then I took a look at amazon up in Canada and noticed that it still seems to be in print up there. I'm assuming that's why so many are available on eBay, since it's still a current title up there.

Let's see...

I own the 1980's release of NOW & THEN and it contains the YOM that is similar to my VINYL version.

My "The Singles 1969-1973" has the remix version, I believe that this is the remix because it has the different sounding piano in the beginning. Sharper keys.

There are 2 "Singles 1969-1973" available in Japan now.

Mine is Remastered Classics and it has single mix.
Another was released last October.[UICY9732] Here is audio sample.

Speaking about Japanese release, looks like GOLD will be released on April 21st in Japan.
I read song list on cdjournal website. Songs are the same as Gold 35th anniversary Edition.

Sounds like the Japanese release is the single version as well. At least the piano track is from '73 so I would assume that the rest of the tune has the electric guitar mixed in as did the single.

Incidentally, the Remastered Classics version is very difficult to obtain, so I would strongly suggest that if you are looking for and original master copy of "The Singles, 1969-1973", that you import a copy of the Japanese print. Just my $.02. -Chris

I posted an information about re-release of Singles 1969-1973 last summer, and links to Japanese websites last December.
Remaster Classics is still available but price is higher than October release.
