You have some GREAT picks on there Murray!

Kylie's Light Years is an awesome album. Definitely my favorite Kylie album (and I have them all from 1988's Kylie to her most recent X).

And Lynda Carter's Portrait!!! What I wouldn't give for a copy of that on CD!!!

Well, nightcat, I have a dozen Stan Getz’s CDs, but I don't have, nor was I familiar with “SWEET RAIN”. After a little on-line research I see that it’s a highly regarded album, some even say it’s his greatest post Bossa Nova era album. So, I just ordered it.

That’s one of the best things about this forum; I’m always being exposed to new music. Thanks for listing it, nightcat!

Regards,
Mike

FRANCIS ALBERT SINATRA & ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM

That one almost makes my desert island list as-is; what I did was take those 10 tracks, the 7 Jobim tracks from the otherwise miserable (IMHO) Sinatra & Co., and the three additional tracks from this same later session that make up an even 20. In that configuration, my own home-brew CD would be toted along with the others in my list.

Mike... I think you'll like Sweet Rain. This is the kind of album I would expect if Getz recorded for Blue Note. Its very pure and clean jazz played by 4 great musicians. All 5 songs are gems, but I particularly like O Grande Amor (a slow/medium tempo bossa nova) and the great Gillespie tune, Con Alma. This also may be Grady Tate's best album ever.

Rudy, I made a similar cd with the Sinatra bossa nova tunes. It does make a great compilation!

As I am unfamiliar with some of the older stuff, one can't help but wonder: Is this the same Grady Tate who was a drummer and vocalist? If so, he did a cameo on Grover Washington, Jr.'s "Come Morning" album in 1981...

Just curious,
Tony
