Well, I decided to keep and open my Japanese 35th anniversary box set which A&M kindly sent to me. Wow! It's really cool!

I've noted previously that I received #000030 which is quite a low number, all things considered.

But upon inspecting and slipping the individual covers into plastic sleeves, I noticed the stamp on each disc. "Sample - Loaned"

Anyone have any info, thoughts or comments?

(I ain't sending it back, thank you very much!)

This is one form of a usual industry practice of marking "promo" items as such. There are quite a few tactics that have been used over the years to make a distinguishing mark on a promo item, such as specially printed labels, cut corners, punched out UPC codes, and printing around the hub, such as yours.

I have a promo copy of the LOVELINES CD which has a specially printed "PROMOTIONAL NOT FOR SALE" designation across the face of the disc.

The first 20 copies of every Carpenters release in Japan are sent to Richard for his own collection by Polydor.
I wonder if his copies are also promo ones.
