On Monday I recieved my "Chicago 25 Xmas CD" and I have to say it's very enjoyable. I'll be listening to this thing all through Lent. Have a Happy new one...Jay
For Chicago fans -- this disk has been reissued and retitled WHAT'S IT GONNA BE, SANTA?" and has had six tunes added. I had the old version, wound up eBay-ing it, and have not seen the new one yet, but will soon!
I have to admit the mastering isn't my cup of tea (maximized Chicago...bleh), but the tunes are definitely better than most of the modern-day crap I've heard. There's that certain "Chicago" charm to them, that same sound that has been around since the early days. This one is one of the few I've listened to, recorded from the early 80's on, that I actually like. I just do not like the majority of today's pop/rock/R&B singers slaughtering Christmas songs. Guess I'm more a traditionalist. In jazz and other areas, there are still some decent new recordings, but IMHO most of the good stuff was recorded in earlier decades.
