Big Bacharach news in this week's Billboard (page 56, complete with color photo).
There will be a two hour TV special, "McCormick Presents Burt Bacharach," to air in NBC Dec. 20. The time for the airing is listed as 4:00 PM Eastern/Pacific which seems strange to me, could be a typo. (Although it IS a Saturday, so go figure.)
Performers will include Bacharach, Michael McDonald, James Ingram and Aretha Frankin, each performing a few Bacharach songs. Burt himself will sing "Alfie" and Franklin will debut a new Bacharach song, "Falling Out of Love," which will be on her news album due Sept. 16.
The performances will be accompanied by ice skating greats Brian Boitano, Rudy Galindo and Nicole Bobek. Some of the songs will be pre-taped because of the skaters; others will be performed live.
The show will be taped Sept. 20 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.
He also plans on working with the Isley Brothers on their upcoming album.
The REAL big news as far as I'm concerned is, later this year he's beginning work on a new solo album which he says will be 70% instrumental. No word on what label it'll be on, but maybe the recent compilation release on A&M forecasts a new Bacharach/A&M era!
