Well after getting home from work, I had the chance to try this CD on a different player and sure enough it's doing this on a different player too so I turned the CD over to inspect it (never thought of that last night since it's brand new) and there are several visible pitts. It appears I got a defective disc, all my luck. For this price it should be perfect on the back.

I will say, other than these few seconds mentioned above, I am really impressed with the sound of this CD. As far as being able to play this in a standard CD player, I feel it's as good or even better sounding than my SACD Carpenters 69-81 based on a standard CD player. What I like most about this K2 CD is it seems to bring out all the instruments and vocals with a more crisper, brighter sound, nothing is buried in the mix, it has a clarity about it that is evident to me. It's nicely equalized too, not just a louder CD, I can tell this was mastered differently than anything I've had by the Carpenters. In my opinion I feel it's worth the price for this CD.

I'm happy to report that my replacement Cd was delivered today, this disc is much cleaner on the underside, not a mark visible and it plays like it should on that spot I mentioned above. This one also has a cleaner binder, the defective one was mared up on one corner and one of the photos inside bleed through to the gold lettering in the liner notes, this replacement is perfect.

I found a write up on the master engineer for this release with his picture and another page to the mastering involved.
