I am making a recommendation for all of you who listen to music via your PC. KAAM radio, from Garland Texas, is now on the worldwide web at www.kaamradio.com. I have to say that this station has by far the finest playlist and the nicest radio personalities I've seen in a long time. It is of considerable relevance to us because they play a wealth of songs by A&M artists that you won't hear anywhere else, except maybe Rudy's station. As a sampling of what I regularly hear them play:
Herb Alpert/TJB-"Lonely Bull", "A Taste Of Honey", "Whipped Cream", "Tijuana Taxi", "Spanish Flea", "Zorba The Greek", "What Now My Love", "The Work Song", "Mame", "Casino Royale", "A Banda", "Cabaret", "This Guy's In Love With You", "Rise", and "Route 101".

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66-"Mas Que Nada", "Fool On The Hill", "The Look Of Love", "Night And Day", "Pretty World", "Never Gonna Let You Go"

Carpenters: "For All We Know", "Sing", "Close To You", "Top Of The World", "We've Only Just Begun", "Please Mr Postman"

Baja Marimba Band-"Comin' In The Back Door"

Wes Montgomery-"Windy"

Chuck Mangione-"Feels So Good"

Sandpipers-"Guantanamera", "Come Saturday Morning"

I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting/ haven't heard yet. There are some periods during the day and early evening when they will play requests. saturday night there's a pre-Beatles rock show with DJs named Crusin' Al and Willie B. Eddie Hubbard, Linda Martin, Tori Logan, And Jaan MCcoy will generally play requested songs if you call during their shows. Tom Goodridge and Crusin' Al will play requests on Sundays. The website has a program list that tells when these shows are on. Other artists you will hear regularly are: Engelbert, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Nat king Cole, Henry Mancini, Al Hirt, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Olivia Newton John, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Eydie Gorme, Petula Clark, Dionne Warwick, virtually all Big Bands etc. Too many big names to remember. Please give these guys a listen and either call or e-mail their web site and let them know what you like. They are a great radio station with great people who really listen and respond to your requests. I now listen to them exclusively.

David,
glad that someone plays OUR kind of music

Think we might have heard some of that station on the way up north from Austin to Kansas last Thanksgiving. Will definitely try to tune it in when we repeat that trip in a few weeks. Thanks for the tip!

The only other central Texas station I know of that plays any A&M tunes at all is KNCT (Killeen) FM 91.3--pretty much standard muzak but every now and then they'll throw in a Herb or two, maybe half a dozen Brasil '66, and numerous Carpenters. They've got great big band and jazz programming on Sunday afternoons, starting at noon and going till 7 or 8.

Though their jingles seem a bit out of whack for a nostalgic station(they are lucky to share a certain frequency-770AM-that matches New York's WABC,so those jingles sound very familiar and, gee,is Garland,Texas just a holler from the PAMS jingle company?) but their play list,if it isn't as restricted as most, has the right touch. With possibly 70 years of material(1940s to present), decade hopping can be a bit jarring on these stations, but at least they don't have a "rat pack" lounge attitude nor do they come off as your grandfather's radio-they seem to really respect the material on the air. The most requested list is headed by Francis Albert Sinatra but, unfortunately,a tired song selection-"My Way". They are now playing Ed Ames' "Try to Remember" from "The Fantastiks"(and originated by the late Jerry Orbach),a truly great post 1960 classic. Well now, there's Sergio's "Fool On The Hill" following Patsy Cline's "Crazy"-and now here's Frank with "The Tender Trap" -gotta love it! Mac

I was tickled to see Eddie Hubbard listed above. He was one of my radio heros growing up and later I had a chance to frequently share a microphone with him on the ABC network.

If he's still playing "The Browsers" segment on Hubbards Cupboard, you might want to check it out, I was a guest on the panel about once a month. I don't know which shows he's repeating. It was a big band trivia show.

Eddie is one of the greats!

I think their "most requested" list is a bit outdated. When I listen during request segments, particularly on Sunday, I'd say that Engelbert gets the most consistent request action. I usually request a Herb song. Frank and Dean also get a lot of request action and I'm happy to say that they play a wide selection of tunes by Ol' Blue Eyes, not just "My Way". I'm also pleased that they play other tunes by Pops besides "What A wonderful World". BTW, their request line number is 972-445-0770. there is also a tol free number which I can't recall, but they always mention it on Sunday mornings. Eddie Hubbard (Hubbard's Cupboard) is generally on from 1-4 PM and he will usually play requests. Right now, they're playing "Those Were The Days" by Mary Hopkins. Big hit when I was about 8 years old.

David,
lovin' the memories........
