The smooth-sided CD cases

A discussion elsewhere prompted me to take a picture of my early Carpenters CDs, all of which have smooth-sided CD cases. I thought I'd post them here too.

You lost me on this one Harry.
Most CD jewel cases have had ribbed edges. I think it evolved that way as some people had difficulty opening the earlier smooth-edged ones. Look at the top edge of the cases in the picture. There are no ridges, just flat plastic. Early CDs came that way.

I just looked at mine, all of which I bought in the summer of 1987 and they all have ribbed edges except for A Song For You. Maybe the 1986 versions were smooth?

I guess so. I was quite surprised to notice that all of those were smooth.
