Hello all
I run a little website that is dedicated to the archeological pursuit of 78 rpm records. In the USA, Canada, and the UK these lovely 10 inch wonders went out of production about 1960 or so, fully replaced by the 45 rpm single, EP, and 33 1/3 rpm LP. But in some areas, India, Philippines, South Africa, and South America, they lived on well into the 60s.
I was pleased to find (and quite lucky to be unchallenged in my bidding for) a 78 rpm disk of The Mexican Shuffle by Herb & co. as released on the Stateside label in India in 1964. I plan to feature it as a Cool 78 of the Month for April 2006 at my website.
So -- I'd like to enlist some help. Pardon a laundry list of questions, but here goes:
1) Can anyone provide me with chart info and discography info for release of The Mexican Shuffle in Canada and the UK on 45 rpm.
2) I realise that Stateside (a part of EMI) released A&M recordings in the UK. Can anyone tell me at what point A&M and Stateside parted ways.
3) Finally -- here's the biggie -- does anyone know of any other A&M related 78s in the aforementioned areas. Naturally I don't expect to see a real A&M 78 in the wild!
BTW -- this record is an audiophilic dream! The fidelity at 78 rpm is breathtaking.
oh -- the website -- http://www.cool78s.com
Its dedicated primarily to the Beatles, but I have been expanding it. I just moved it to the dedicated domain, after many years elsewhere, so pardon the dust as I redo the graphics and layout. In the past year I began the Cool 78 feature.
I hope to place The Mexican Shuffle page this week. Naturally I will provide thanks, kudos, and attribution for any info provided.
Thank you
Toni-Lynn
