Anyway, after looking at the tape, it appears that Maria sang her part live to the recorded backing track - throwing into the chorus the English lyrics. This is what she sang:
It was a night of madness, a crazy moment.
His lips were warm, yours far away.
I just got lost in this single feeling,
and that's all there's to it.
After years now of hearing the song in Spanish, I think you're right - it doesn't work at all in English.
