Karen Carpenter Solo Sessions - Continued

Bringing this back to the song and some of the lyrics...they really were meaningless.

I really don't mean to stare
I was only trying to memorize you there
You know I meant no harm
It's just that the starlight in your eye
Gave me a chill, nearly made me cry
I'm sure it's very clear

I don't mean to intrude
It's just that I don't want to break this mood
And if I hold your hand it's just 'cause
There's something in the things you say
That wraps me up and really puts me away
But everybody knows
I don't know what's goin' down
You're gonna ruin this poor girl from out of town
I like the way you move so much that
I guess I just lost my head

Meaning…LESS! The changes are amazing and I love the arrangement but yeah…bad lyric. Karen sells it well tho.

I always kind of imagined it as a woman on a business trip out of town, in a bar, checking out some dude, then flirting with him and picking him up (we really don’t know each other and should know better, but you’re hot and let’s hook up, in other words….)
As plausible as any scenario I’ve ever heard. Let’s go with it. 🤣🤣

That’s hilarious!! Scary that those titles fit with the theme too 🤣

There are all sorts of key changes going on in this song, it's really quite clever and a shame it didn't have a better lyric.
I've always liked the lyrics! It's got a definite vibe. Sorta like, 'Don't mind me, I just think you're sexy and I can't stop looking at you'. It's certainly a different approach from something like, 'Bright-colored pinwheels go 'round in my head, I run through the mists of the wine'. : )

One of my favorite songs! Off the Wall, my favorite MJ album!

"Thriller" outsold it but "Thriller" doesn't exist without "Off the Wall." Further, "Off the Wall" is the sound of an artist having fun. You can just hear his happiness and the thrill of discovery is palpable. "Thriller" is a science project - every song was meant to fit a demographic. On that record, you can hear his determination for superstardom. "Off the Wall" is, therefore, a much more engaging listen - at least it is for me.

And every time I see that song title I can't help debating with myself whether Hideaway should be one word or two...is it the place or the act?

Grammatically it's incorrect. In that sentence it's the act, not the noun. You wouldn't say I need to hideaway. You'd hide_away in a hideaway.

So, to hide away is to seek a place of seclusion..

A hideaway is that place of seclusion.

So, then the title of the song should be "A Place to Hide Away"...
