Just wondered if the LIVE IN JAPAN CD is the same concert as LIVE AT THE BUDOKEN. If not, how much difference is there.

Cheers,

Neil

Different concert - different tour.

Harry
...with Budokan on LaserDisc, online...

For the most part they are the same, however, "Hurting Each Other" is ONLY AVAILABLE ON THE CD, and "Yesterday Once More" is the WHOLE version on the special.

In other words, it is a COMPLETE different concert. I LOVE them both!

"Live at Budokan" DVD
1974 May the 31st
taped at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan
for TV program as monoral
released as stereo
Children Chorus: Hibari Chidren Choir

"Live In Japan"
1974 June
taped at Osaka Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan
recorded on a 16 track machine
Chilren Chorus: Kyoto Chidren Choir

Karen and Richard came to Tokyo, Japan last of May in 1974.
I heard that Karen and Richard went to Chin-zan-so in Tokyo. So Karen and
Richard might write their names on the glass at Chin-zan-so.
They performed 3 times at Budokan, went to Shizuoka, Kyoto and Osaka.

Eve wrote:
At Osaka airport they were joined by
Pete Henderson who remained with them for the remainder of the tour.
All six shows performed in Osaka were recorded on a 16 track machine by King
Record Co. for the release of a double album "live" Japanese record. Copies
of the tapes are to be sent to Richard who will listen to them all, and pick
the best of each show for a possible U.S.A. release.

I might read that "Live in Japan" was taped on 3 days of June and selected
by Richard.

I purchased "Live in Japan" LP's in March of 1975. The Carpenters concerts
in Japan were postponed in 1975. Only Richard came to Japan.
Karen and Richard came to Japan in 1976. The video "There's A Kind Of Hush
(GOLD)" might be taped in Osaka. The concerts in Japan, 1976 were just
before they were prduced by Joe Layton, I think. (I heard a brief interview
with Karen about Joe Layton on 'Charlie Tuna' show on FEN Radio (American
Forces Radio in Japan) in around 1976.) The concerts in 1976 are not the
same as "Live in Japan" nor "Live at Budokan". You can imagine concerts in
Japan, 1976 as Live at Palladium minus Joe's stage produce.

Same tour, different concerts.

I have not heard CD live in Japan, 1976. I sometimes read the CD on the web,
it is bootleg.

I have also read that "Live at Budokan" is bootleg. My friend has seen the
live video in '70's at American School in Japan. I think they taped TV program.
Someone might sell "Live at Budokan" as bootleg,
BUT "Live at Budokan" is Official Release.

If you can see Region-2 and are going to get it, you should choose limited
edition, 2800yen. Limited edition, UIBA-9002, was released about one year
ago and sold out in several months and released again last November.
(UIBY-1010 is available, 3800yen released in 2001)

If you are going to purchase "Top of the World" with Sing Karaoke,UICY-5010, be careful. It is Maxi CD, 1200yen. It is different from "Top of the World" single CD.
"Live in Japan"($40.69), "Top Of The World", "The Rainbow Connection","Treasures", "By Request"and "Anthology" are available on CD Universe.

I have read that Syun-ichi Okano thought about release of live, I'm waiting for re-release of "Live in Japan". I love "Live at Budokan". I do hope "Budokan" will be released as region free. ("Gold" DVD was released in Japan as region free last year, "Carpenters Gold - Deluxe Sound & Vision", UICY7230)

-LIVE AT BUDOKAN question
What do you think Donney and Richard talked about while Karen sang?

-LIVE IN JAPAN question
I have not listened to "Live in Japan" for a long time. Doug Strawn sang "Johnny B. Goode", didn't he?
I wonder what song Pete Henderson sang.
Which parts and who talked on "Leader Of The Pack"?

Sakura

 Hi Sakura. In 1976 we had Japanese exchange students staying with us for the summer. They were very familiar with Carpenters music, and when they returned to Japan, Midori sent me "Live at Bukodan" on vinyl. I was so excited to receive it - I had no idea that there was a concert album. I listened to it so much I just about wore it out. :rotf:

Hi! Thanks for sharing your memory about Carpenters.
Did you mean "Live in Japan" LP?
I wonder if Midori is a girl who has a website about Carpenters.

Sakura

Hi Sakura. You could be right about Live in Japan. It's packed away now and I'm not sure which title it was. I'm not aware of Midori having a website, but her last name is/was Nishioka. If you find that it's her I'd love to know where her site is located. :agree:
