I was listening to my Offering CD out of the 35th Anniversary Box Set and decided I would listen to the whole thing through.

I got to Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing and noticed something did not sound right. I reversed it and it happened again. The track actually skips in part of the 3rd chorus. The time is 2:55. It skips when Rich is singing "Can't Even"...

My first hypothesis was that the CD was copied wrong onto the computer, so I checked my Offering LP and sure enough, it was there too.

I did a search in the forum and nobody has brought this up before, so I thought I would.

The 'jump' you're hearing is actually meant to be there - it's not a fault on the recording, but Richard and Karen clipping the rhythm of the line as a way of varying the tempo in this late stage of the song. It's a trick done on many other songs (can't think of an example right now though LOL), including the Carpenters.

I will post one if an example comes to mind.

Yep - it's called 'arrangement', plain and simple.

BTW, I've always loved that recording, distorted strings and all.
