From the Japanese Digitally Remastered Best lyrics sheet:

LET GO
(Baden Powell/Norman Gimbel)

You keep what you're feeling inside
All buried and boxed up inside
The love that you're feeling inside
The pity you're feeling inside

* Society tells you stay cool
They shout you with "let out" "hold back"
You're right now but right now hold back
Be practical Jack and hold back
You feel like you're bustin' inside
Your heart's in a desperate divide

Why, why, why hold back

** Let go
Let the world know you're alive
Let the world know you believe
Let the world know you have love to give
Go
Tell it in the city, go
Tell it on the mountain, go
Tell it loud until they leave

* Repeat

* * Repeat

I tend to think that that last word should be "hear". "Tell it loud until they hear" seems way better than "Tell it loud until they leave!"

...who likes this song a lot, both by The Sandpipers and Tamba 4, online...

Thanks Harry.

I have not heard Tamba 4's version of the song. But now I have a reason to go the record shops around town. I really like Astrud's version of the song, and I originally heard the portuguese version of the song (Elis Regina). And I like the flavor that the Sandpipers created when they recorded this song.

Speaking of (and since I do have the moderator's attention) what is the history of the Sandpipers. American, Spanish, French...? And the whos and did any go solo, and... (am I missing a bio page for them?)

Thanks again,

Trevor

You'll find Tamba 4's version (titled in "Chant Of Ossanha (Canto de Ossanha)") on their We And The Sea album, originally A&M SP 3004, now out on CD in the US from Verve By Request as 31454 34832. Also available on CD in Japan.

I don't have much info on The Sandpipers themselves -- I think LPJim here is better equipped to handle your questions.
