Yesterday I found Japanese articles about Carpenters on the net and in newspapers.
Last year I posted that Richard's birthday would become Carpenters Day. It was authorized by Japanese Memorial Day Association(I don't know what they are called in English).
However 40th Anniversary releases were postponed.
April 22 became Carpenters Day.

So newspaper and net articles about Carpenters Day and tribute album were written. One newspaper has Karen's and Richard's photo from Rolling Stone photo session. Another one has new photo of Richard(I cannot find it on the net.).

It is reported that Richard will come to Japan around April 22 and appear on TV.

I haven't updated. "40/40" became #1 at Sound Scan ranking.

(Richard's photo was printed in article page and the top page of the newspaper!!)

CD shop chain magazine article

looks like the same or almost the same interview that I posted before
aired at another FM station

I bought music magazine called "Record Collectors' Magazine" a few days ago. April 20 - interview with Richard for 6 pages with "40/40" cover and information, Karen's & Richard's photo and Richard's photo.
It has shocking comment by Richard.
Richard planned to remaster songs for "40/40" from original master tapes and booked(?) Bernie Grundman. Richard tried to contact with Universal Music but they never answered, then Richard knew master tapes were destroyed by fire. Many of us must remember the articles about the fire about one year ago, or the threads. Stephen posted words from Universal Music?
Most master tapes were lost. Richard had to gather tapes from other 3 places.

Universal Music Japan posted a couple of TV appearance information. One of them were posted to YouTube. NHK program will repeat next month.

Sakura,

I'm not totally convinced the master tapes were destroyed in a fire. However I thought it was odd on the 40/40 set that their was no remastering credit. Most of the Japanese compilations that have come out after 1998 have been remastered by richard and bernie and that remastering credit would appear in the CD booklet. So as far as the 40/40 set I have no idea who remastered it and what source was used. Maybe only richard could answer this question?

Sakura,

Items with this kind of value do not have only one copy. I triple copy photos from my meager business and cannot imagine this important kind of thing to be 'lost'. Why Grundman didn't reply to Richard is odd also. Hmmm. 'The Untold Story' Volume II. RIP Mr. Coleman.
